King Frederick II and his leading advisors hesitate too long in the eyes of some officers, so Major von Schill decides to strike out on his own. He hoped that his brave move would be the catalyst for the great war of liberation. But von Schill's troops were soon defeated by a superior force of Dutch-Danish troops. The king takes a public stand against von Schill's actions and eleven of his officers are shot by summary execution on Napoleon's orders. However, one of them, Lieutenant Heinrich von Wedell, escapes death and is sentenced to forced labor for life. When Wedell's brother Karl, who opposed von Schill's unauthorized actions, learns of Heinrich's fate, he decides to help him in a risky way...

Martin Hinterkirchner, dissatisfied with his position, sends the hits he has secretly composed to a manager. One of them would be ideal for the famous singer Linda Borg, but her manager refuses. This includes simulating suicides, setting off the air-raid sirens and abusing the school director's new broadcasting system. They succeed in sending their teacher to a sanatorium and get a replacement that turns out to not be so bad after all.

Dr. Oskar Sommer, a good-natured high school teacher, takes on a momentous task for the school janitor, also named Oskar Sommer: he is to play the role of the janitor's daughter's father for a few days. Since the real father has not been seen for 15 years and has pretended to be a teacher in his letters, the two Sommers promptly pick up the wrong person at the train station.
