Privacy Policy

The short version

Midnight is a movie and TV discovery app. Your personal activity is stored in your own browser first. If you sign in, it is also backed up to your account so it syncs across your devices. We don't sell data, we don't run ads, and we don't build advertising profiles.

What Midnight stores

All of the following is kept in your browser's local storage, and — when you are signed in — backed up to your account so it follows you between devices:

• My List — titles you've saved to watch later
• Your lists — the named collections you create
• Ratings — star ratings you've given titles
• Watch history — titles you've opened, used for the Continue Watching and "Because You Watched" rails
• Episode check-ins and release reminders — the episodes you've marked watched and the titles you asked to be reminded about
• Recently viewed — title pages you've opened
• Search history — your recent searches, shown as suggestions
• Not interested — titles you've dismissed from recommendations
• Settings — your streaming services, list sort order, and similar preferences

One thing is kept on this device only, even when you are signed in:

• Films you've marked watched — marking a whole film watched is not backed up to your account and will not follow you to another device

Without an account, all of it stays local to this device. Either way you can erase the local copy at any time by clearing your browser's site data for this site, and you can download everything held against your account from Download my data on your profile.

Account data (optional)

You can use Midnight without an account. If you choose to log in, authentication is handled by the Wix platform, which hosts this site. In that case we can see the basic profile associated with your member account (such as your name, email, and profile photo) so we can greet you in the header, and your synced data (everything listed above) is stored alongside your account. Third-party services

When you browse Midnight, your browser talks to these services:

• TMDB — poster and backdrop images are loaded directly from The Movie Database's image servers.
• TMDB API — title metadata (names, overviews, ratings) is fetched from The Movie Database's API.
• IMDb (Amazon) — most trailers play as a video file streamed directly from IMDb's content network, which is subject to Amazon's privacy policy.
• YouTube — where no trailer file is available, the trailer is an embedded YouTube player, subject to Google's privacy policy.
• Google Analytics — usage data (such as page views and anonymous product-usage events) is sent to Google Analytics so we can understand how the site is used, subject to Google's privacy policy.

These services receive standard web request information (such as your IP address) when your browser loads their content. Midnight does not send them your list, ratings, or history.

Analytics and tracking

Midnight collects basic, anonymous product-usage events (such as searches and ratings) to understand which features are used, and uses Google Analytics to measure site traffic — pages viewed, where visitors come from, and aggregate usage. That data does not include your name, email, list, or history. The site does not use advertising cookies and does not sell data to anyone.

Changes

If this policy changes, we'll update this page and the date at the top. Continued use of the site after a change means you accept the updated policy.
