The Prison Shift

Set in 1992, Heimsendir is an isolated mental hospital on the outskirts of Reykjavík. The hospital, referred to as ‘World’s End’ is a last resort for many mental patients, many of whom consider it a home. Elementary school teacher, Einar, is committed against his will after a severe nervous breakdown and is critical about how things are run at the hospital and before long he has most of the patients on his side, rooting for change. Einar, along with the other patients, stages a revolution and takes over the hospital, declaring its a state within a state, a Utopia for the mentally ill.

Næturvaktin revolves around the lives of three employees working at the Shell petrol station in Laugavegur, Reykjavík. The three man night shift is made up of eccentric supervisor Georg Bjarnfreðarson, a committed Marxist, vegan, who has an admiration for everything Swedish. Ólafur Ragnar, a regular employee and a simple, well-meaning guy who dreams of fame and wealth. And Daníel Sævarsson, who after dropping out of medical school joins the team. What the three men don't know is due to this job how profoundly their lives will be forever linked.

Karitas is a single mother of four who desperately tries to make ends meet. The dentist Oscar has been married for five years and lives with his wife and adopted children. On the surface everything seems to be fine but Oscar is not a happy man. His wants a baby of his own flesh and blood but it's not working out. When he finds out that his wife has been deceiving him all these years he decides it's time for a change. Einar is a stockbroker who is very successful at work but not in his personal life. For the last couple of months Einar has been living at a hotel waiting for his wife to realize the terrible mistake she made by throwing him out. Katrin Rose returns from Sweden where she has lived for eight years. In Iceland Katrin has an eleven-year-old son, brought up by his grandmother and now Katrin wants him back. Katrin gets a job as a dentist's assistant intending to make a fresh start but her troubled past catches up with her.

Einar, a charismatic history teacher is committed to a remote mental asylum in Iceland. During the bank holiday weekend he initiates an uprising that transforms into a proper revolution where the lunatics literally take over the asylum.

Set in present-day Reykjavík, Fiasco draws a narrative circle of interconnecting stories in which three members of the Bardal household deal with the secret loves in their lives. The characters cross each other as the film progresses, until the three interwoven strands of the story finally come together in an explosive and hilarious crescendo full of surprises.
