O Espigão

O Bem-Amado is a Brazilian telenovela that first aired on Rede Globo in 1973. It is based on a play by Dias Gomes called Odorico, o Bem-Amado ou Os Mistérios do Amor e da Morte, written in 1962. It was the first Brazilian color telenovela. It was shot in Rio de Janeiro. Broadcast by Rede Globo between January 22 and October 3, 1973.

In the tiny poor town of Asa Branca, in the middle of Brazilian Northeast, Roque Santeiro is worshiped as a saint. He was supposedly killed by a bandit, 18 years ago, trying to save the local church. After his disappearance, local leaderships such as landowner Sinhozinho Malta and mayor Florindo, took profit on that to control the humble population. They even make up a widow, Porcina, who should have married Roque secretly before his death. What they don't expect is that Roque is alive, and he's back to, allegedly, "save his people". Now Malta, Florindo, Porcina, and others must hold him down and explain the "truth" to their commoners, in a desperate attempt to save their own bottoms. Meanwhile, mysterious facts surround Asa Branca, such as a Werewolf, a film crew who are trying to shoot a movie about Roque's story, and violent murderers.

Based on the original by Dias Gomes, The Well Beloved One is a political satire starring Odorico Paraguaçu.

Saramandaia is a Brazilian telenovela originally written by Dias Gomes in 1976. It's considered remarkable because of the Magic Realism (used by the author to subtly criticize the Military Regime of the time) and had 160 chapters. The story centers on the name change that the city undergoes, promoted by the younger citizens and reviled by the older ones. It also focuses on the lives of the city's quirky residents.

A mystic, Laio makes no move without consulting his guru and friend Argemiro, whom he turns to upon learning of Jocasta's pregnancy. The cowrie shell reading reveals that his son is destined to kill him and enter into a romantic relationship with his mother. Terrified, Laio disappears with the child immediately after birth, aided by Argemiro—who loves Laio and loathes Jocasta. Twenty-five years later, Jocasta is a successful yet restless woman searching for her missing son. She is estranged from Laio, who has spent recent years expanding his father's fortune through involvement in underground gambling. On a highway, he encounters Oedipus, unaware that the young man is his son.

Dias Gomes and Marcílio Moraes' version of the soap opera of the same name by Janete Clair shown in 1970, Irmãos Coragem features as central characters João, Jerônimo and Duda, three brothers who threaten the dominance of the powerful farmer Pedro Barros, the highest authority in the fictional Coroado, in the interior of Minas Gerais, where the story is set.

El Bienamado is a Mexican telenovela produced by Nicandro Díaz González for Televisa and originally broadcast on Las Estrellas from January 23 to June 11, 2017. It is based on the Brazilian play O Bem-Amado, written by Dias Gomes. Set in the fictional town of Loreto, the story follows Odorico Cienfuegos, an ambitious and charismatic mayor whose obsession with inaugurating the town's new cemetery leads to a series of humorous schemes, political intrigue, and unexpected situations.
