She leaves very much broken up. She attempts suicide on a railroad track, but is frightened by the rumbling of the train. She next visits a drug store where her nervous manner gives away her intention to the druggist. Instead of giving her cyanide of potassium as she requests he gives her a bottle of plain water, marking it cyanide of potassium.

Then Jerome Underwood and his daughter, Harriet, arrive and they recognize Henry and Sally as the ones who held them up for gas. The jealous sheriff adds to the complications.

She begins aggressively flirting with every man she encounters, including a Scotsman, to make Perry jealous. To get back at her, Perry stages his own death in a plane crash, but when Vivian discovers the plane crash was a hoax, she is initially even more enraged. However, after a series of further misadventures, the couple eventually reconciles.
