Dorothy Devore

A 1923 Christie comedy starring Babe London and Dorothy Devore. Queenie (London) has sent a picture of her sister Katie (Devore) to her pen pal as if it was her. Now that the pen pal is in love and coming to meet Queenie in person, Katie has to pretend she is a child.

The Warrens have a full dress Navy wedding, but to sneak out on the reception guests, Dorothy disguises herself as a sailor. But she's caught up with a group of real sailors and finds herself aboard a battleship. Incredibly, nobody spots her as a small female impostor, causes foul ups and gets chased around the decks and cannons.

Irene, a young girl from a small town, arrives in New York City determined to make it on the Broadway stage. She meets up with Cookie, a worldly chorus girl who takes Irene under her wing. When Irene falls for young Ronald, his rival Crane sets out to break up the pair so he can have Irene for his own--and he doesn't much care how he does it.

While in Europe, Chaddie Green, a society girl, discovers that she has been left penniless. She returns to the United States and meets Duncan MacKail, who is equally broke though he owns grainland in the West. Duncan and Chaddie are married and go west to homestead. Duncan hires Ollie, a Swedish caretaker, who frightens Chaddie. When business takes Duncan away, Chaddie goes to take care of Percy Woodhouse, an Englishman who has become ill at his place fifteen miles away. Her horse runs away, and she is forced to spend the night there. She sleeps under a wagon, but Duncan is nevertheless angry and jealous.

Dolores Valdez, returning to her South American home, falls in love with Dan Stone, the ship's doctor. He is forced to jump overboard when he thinks he has killed a man who while protecting Dolores. Diego, the uncle of Dolores, is trying to force her to marry Ortego, has a counterfeiting business going with Ortego in a lonely chapel in which Dolores is forbidden to go.

Horatio Manly Jr. (William Haines), the only son of Judge Horatio Manly (David Torrence), is disowned by his father for obstructing firemen during a hotel fire. He later redeems himself by rescuing a young woman, Alice Doran (Dorothy Devore) and a street urchin, Mickey (Frankie Darro) from a burning building...and capturing Mickey's wicked father Big Jim (Sheldon Lewis), an escaped convict.

Young reporter Jay Walker is given the job of investigating Ducket Nelson, an infamous bandit. While driving in the country Walker is held up by Nelson--who is disguised as an elderly Gypsy woman--and when his colleagues at the newspaper find out and ridicule him, his publisher tells him not to come back until he himself captures Nelson. Determined to avenge his embarrassment, he sets out to find and bring in the bandit.

In spite of dire predictions from her mother, Mary Brown marries Oswald Bates, an energetic young businessman. He then is forced to go to Paris alone on their wedding night. Haunted by thoughts of his neglected bride, Oswald seeks to drown his sorrow in Parisian night life.
