Crimson Shores

After serving in the army, Maxim came to work as a driver on the construction of a seaport. There he met and befriended little Pasha, the son of Galina, an accountant who is about to get married. But Pasha doesn't like his mother's suitor, and the boy hopes that she will pay attention to the kind and cheerful Maxim.

As a seven-year-old boy, he once visited his uncle for the first time and was captivated by the beauty of the taiga. Years later, becoming a biology student, the hero comes to these places and receives the first lessons of morality in communicating with the natural world... Having once witnessed a barbaric hunt, when dozens of birds were exterminated before his eyes for the sake of boredom, the hero vowed never to pick up a gun again and became a passionate defender of all living things on earth.

The screen adaptation of Osip Turyansky's novel "Beyond the boundaries of Pain", which is considered one of the best works, depicting the First World War as a hell through which seven people doomed to death, including the future author of the novel, passed.

This film is based on the classic novel of the same name by writer Ivan Franko, one of the most famous figures of Ukrainian literature. It is set during the 1200s and the invasion of the medieval Ukrainian-Russian state of Rus' by Chengis Khan's Golden Horde. Due to its having been produced during the Soviet era, the story's aspect of class-conflict between the "heroic" peasantry and the "decadent" noble particularly emphasized here.
