Interview with Lo Ting: An Oral History Project

Lee Sin-yu wants to make a documentary about a friend and his dementia grandfather, who would occasionally say that his wife is "Lo Ting". Lee Sin-yu set out for the fishing village of Tap Mun to begin filming, and starts to understand the dark side of Lo Ting that has been hidden in history.

Lai Yan-Chi's short film 1+1 triumphed at two prominent short film awards in Hong Kong, namely Fresh Wave and IFVA. She multiplies the sentiment in 1+1, by N times maybe, to come up with her debut feature-length fictional film N+N. The wise grandpa and witty granddaughter from 1+1 continue to bless the city with bamboo shoots, while their own home in a rural village is torn down to give way for the high speed railway. They meet other people also jeopardized by the so-called development: artist left homeless because of factory revitalization, the middle-class striving for a living, the young generation born in the 1990s... They are all trying to hold on to the city's collective memory and every living tree.

Mommy, Mama and us

Talking about her documentary, she first talked about “Mommy, Mama and Us” and said that she was a pair of lesbians in Hong Kong who insisted on the possibility of same-sex marriage and family and hoped to tell other people through their own stories. People, sex proceeds unimpeded. “It was a pair of lovers who had a lot of questions when you saw them. Their stories had many complexities, but at the same time, they also showed that they all came along with firm love and courage.” She laughed and remembered the pair. Same-sex mothers are holding cute sticky sons and kiss each other's foreheads, gently grinding the love and encounter of two generations.
