I Want the Eternal

A portrait of the disenchanted youth of the city of Tolyatti, once a symbol of Soviet progress and the automobile, now devastated by economic decline. Laura Sistero encounters an aimless young generation, who express their dreams of escape through crazy races in old patched-up Ladas. A cinematic object is propelled by spectacular skids to the rhythm of an electro-rock soundtrack.

In this short film, M.A. Blanca, together with the co-director Jordi Díaz Fernández, continues to explore the visual style of Quiero Lo Eterno, and also partially retakes the reflection on the impact of the human being in the environment through technology, solitude, death... and taxidermy.

In the summer of 1961, a group of young Italian anthropologists made a clandestine journey through Spain, in order to record popular songs that supported anti-Franco resistance. As a result of their work, they were prosecuted and their recordings were censored. Berta Prieto and Belén Barenys write, together with Miguel Ángel Blanca (Magaluf Ghost Town) this series about the vital moment of a generation, of which five episodes will be screened. Autodefensa is about two friends who have a great time together without having to ask anyone's permission. The film is about being in your twenties, living in Barcelona and wanting to step over every possible emotional red line to discover who you really are. It's about the adventures of two cheeky lunatics who don't want anyone to tell them how to do things, creating their own world in order to be queens. Actually, Autodefensa is about two girls who are really scared and having fun in self-defence. They say they're sorry, it was all 'self-defence', they were just too scared.

From these circumstances, violence appears uncontrollably.

At the height of the summer tourist season, the Spanish beach town Magaluf turns into a hellscape of the low-cost travel industry. For eight weeks every year, over one million mostly British vacationers ride an alcohol-soaked tide of public urination, fisticuffs and ambulance sirens for recreation. Instead of assembling a clip-reel of "balconing," when drunk idiots jump into hotel pools from their balconies, filmmaker Miguel Ángel Blanca crafts a far deeper and atmospheric look at a place where visitors and locals alike are driven by pleasure. Long-time resident Maria has little time left, so she takes in a seasonal lodger who listens to her relive her glory days. An enterprising real estate agent peddles an extravagant development, while a young gay man drifts without any plans beyond robbing a tourist for kicks. Part ghost story, part foreboding parable, this is a stylish and vivid impression of people and a place dreaming of escape. Myrocia Watamaniuk (Hot Docs)
