Salt & Sugar

“Salt and Sugar” is the first Syrian work shown on Syrian television in 1973 during the month of Ramadan, and its events take place inside the prison when the social worker (Sabah Al-Jazairi) visits the prison to search for the cause of the prisoners’ delinquency, and (Dhiab Mashhour) sings the song “Alamaya,” and remembers Ghawar Al-Tosha (Duraid Lahham) is his mother and longs for life outside the bars. He sings his famous songs “Lou Lou Lou” and “Oh my beloved woman, ya mo.” The artist Dhiyab Mashhour also sings “Ya Abourdin.” The artist Taroub also presented two songs, “Tik Tok,” as part of a competition organized by Hosni. Al-Borzan (Nihad Qalai) inside the prison, through a Syrian comedy act starring Duraid Lahham and Nihad Qalai, in collaboration with Yassin Bakoush, Naji Jabr, Najah Hafeez, Abdul Latif Fathi Sabah Al-Jazairi and others, and the work is directed by Khaldoun Al-Maleh.

The Borders

A traveler between two countries metaphorically named "Easternstan" and "Westernstan" loses his passport and identity papers. Stuck between the two countries he can neither cross the frontiers nor get back to where he came from. He's forced to camp in the neutral area between the two countries, facing a lot of funny situations while there. The movie satirizes the ideology of Arab unity and cooperation at the state level.

Wake Up

Due to the great success of the original TV series from 1972, this movie was created with almost identical actors and a slightly different plot. Two friends find themselves in an unexpected conflict when one of them, an employee working in a small hotel, falls for the hotel owner, but she is in love with his friend, a painter who has been staying in the same hotel for a long time, which creates jealousy and conflict between the two friends.

The Two Friends

A strict father refuses to let his beautiful daughter marry the young pilot she loves, believing that the life of a pilot is filled with danger. The pilot sees a dead end, but that does not prevent him from using his cunning to persuade his beloved's father of their marriage.
