Shot on location in Paris, Monte Carlo and the Riviera with both American and French actors. When Matthew Versigny discovers that the jewels his diamond company has been buying are fake, he travels to Europe to track down the counterfeiter. With him are his sister, Marguerite and her sweetheart, Paul Bernac, who is an agent in the French Secret Service.

To fulfill her Father's wish, Grand Duchess Aurora (Huguette Duflos) is forced into an unhappy marriage with Grand Duke Rudolph (Henry Houry). He prepares to leave for the Congo but is murdered by his own brother (Georges Vaultier). Aurora goes to Paris with her father and, there, is told on the phone of her husband's death. En route to the U.S., Joe Hoggart persuades several other immigrants to pool their money and purchase a tract of land, which proves to be rich in oil years later. With the assistance of his associate, Bill Shopps, Joe seeks to control the other investors' certificates. He travels to Spain, where he discovers that a partner named Garros has died. Joe kidnaps Garros' daughter, Rolande, and claims that she has also died. After Didier Bouchard, another member of the group, gathers the partners and their heirs together, Joe lures them into a building where, ostensibly, a sale of the land is to take place. Joe imprisons them, but they escape in time to attend the sale. An investor named Milo d'Espail learns that Rolande is still alive and rescues her from Joe. Bouchard marries Thérèse, another of Garros's daughters.

The bright junior lieutenant Jacques Mareuil, son of an admiral, is stationed in one of our great military ports, and is neighbors with the young Suzie Darvel, who has opted for a career as an opera singer. Having a great knowledge of music himself, the navy officer, who finds the girl’s voice quite interesting, writes her a melody, making it a gift to her. That same day, he receives orders to set sail, putting an end to the beautiful love story which had just begun. Three years later, junior lieutenant Jacques Mareuil returns to Paris. While attending a performance of Carmen, he recognizes the interpreter of the Bizet character as his lovely neighbor from the past. Jacques Mareuil falls in love with the great singer and wants to marry her. His father is however categorically opposed to the decision, and with the aid of one his colleagues at the Naval Department, he obtains an immediate departure to Indochina for Jacques.

A film crew goes to a mansion to shoot a movie. The actor playing the thief is confused and is shot by the owner with a shotgun. In compensation, he is taken care of in the house and falls in love with the daughter of the owners.

Helen fails to hear from him again and Robert's neglect draws her to the city, where she is sent to a reformatory on a false charge. Once released, she begs Judge Princeton for help and, feeling sorry for the unfortunate girl, he introduces her to playwright George Wendbourg, who adopts Helen and makes her a great actress. Seeing Helen on stage reawakens Robert's love for her and he begs her for forgiveness. After initially snubbing him, Helen relents and the two finally are reunited.

Léonce and Suzanne are having a very sweet supper together. But then Leonce refuses to give her a puff on his cigarette. She snatches it and blows smoke in his face; They quarrel. Leonce regrets it, but he is locked out of the boudoir. Only when a mouse gets into her bed, terrifying Suzanne, is there any hope of reconciliation.

Maddened by jealousy, Jacques tries to kill his fellow worker.
