The scene is a posh Parisian hotel-restaurant, which ends up a hotbed of infidelity and mistaken identity. Hotel cook Regina is romantically involved with her boss Octave, the husband of Irma. Mistaken for another woman, Irma is passionately pursued by Bernereau, whose wife gets involved with someone else's husband, whose wife gets involved with.

Two husbands claim to be Freemasons so they can go out at night. Where do they go, if not to the lodge, the Masonic lodge? In reality, one goes to visit a pretty and particularly welcoming concierge in his dressing room, and the other spends his evenings in the dressing room of a little music-hall actress.

Arènes joyeuses

Cabissol, the Mayor of Martigues, a town in the South of France, wishes to organize a bullfight as part of the coming festivities. But that is not counting on Escopette, an opponent of bullfighting, who kidnaps the bulls. What further complicates things is that the appointed bullfighter, Chico de Granada, takes the French leave with Violette, one of Cabissol's daughters. As a measure of retaliation, Cabissol decides to force Escopette to replace Chico in the arena. Fortunately, Rémy, the head herdsman, comes to his rescue. Finally, everything goes well and Cabissol is so happy that he gives Rémy the hand of Marguerite, his other daughter.

Le Chasseur de chez Maxim's

A man is a hunter at Maxim's restaurant. He lives in the provinces and his family is unaware of his profession. As soon as he has enough money, he quits his job and goes home for his daughter's wedding to a marquis. This one is a regular at the restaurant and the man tries to prevent the wedding before the truth is discovered.

The Big Number

Against her father’s wishes, the ringmaster Wallner, Helga forms a connection with the wild animal trainer Peter. After he is almost killed during an appearance, he promises his mistress, that he’ll never work with wild animals again. From that point on, he works with Helga on safe horse numbers. When Helga finds out from Peter’s friend Otto, that Peter would rather work with wild animals again, she doesn’t want to stand in the way of her beloved’s dreams. Helga disappears and leaves Otto enough money to buy Peter a new group of lions. For a long time, Peter and Helga do not see one another, though neither can forget the other. When Helga hears from Otto one day, that Peter is practicing a very dangerous number involving wild animals, during which Otto is to play the “lead”, Helga makes a fatal decision, so she might see Peter again.

Viktor und Viktoria

Aspiring singer Susanne takes over for ham actor Viktor at a small cabaret in Berlin where he works a woman impersonator and per chance she's discovered by an agent, who thinks, that she really is a man. She becomes famous, but her situation becomes troublesome, when she falls in love with Robert.

The Grand Prix

The moral is simple: keep your mouth shut, especially when you're working during the wartime in a factory, which produces racing cars only, or someone can (or even must) get murdered. Not a good movie, not a bad either. The ending is abrupt and artificial, which seems to be a common plague of Third Reich's crime movies. Gustav Fröhlich could never get rid of his silent era mannerisms and overacting. But on the other side, this film is not boring and has to offer some decent plot turns and acting.

The Appeal to Conscience

Ten years ago, the "Andree case" was seemingly solved. Now criminal investigator Husfeld is to reopen it, as doubts have arisen about the guilt of Helga Andree, who was convicted at the time. She is said to have pushed her former rival, the singer Elinor Gyldenborg, off the roof garden and killed her. Husfeld seeks advice from his friend, the writer Volkmar Hollberg. He turns the case into a radio play, which is broadcast on the radio under the title The Jump from the Roof Garden. The broadcast brings back memories of the night of the crime for those present at the time...
