A group of artists and journalists enjoy a series of romantic entanglements in a country hotel. An author, Vera von Eichberg "of whom no photo exists," has mentioned the hotel in her work, boosting its notoriety. When another female guest arrives, everyone assumes she is the author, despite her repeated assertions to the contrary.

The villa in the story of László Vadnai is for sale. The owner goes away and leaves the house to his butler, who also entrusts its safekeeping to an old friend. The friend immediately moves in with his niece, and two swindlers appear. But who is the seller and who is the buyer, and why the villa has to be sold at all, is a question that is only answered satisfactorily at the end of the film, after a lot of wall-crawling humour.

In quiescence, he wants to find out whether he still can handle the burden of the priesthood. Senior Pastor Bachmayer, however, is convinced that he will return.

Anny arrives in Munich to start a career as an actress, but soon ends up without money and job, sleeping on a park bench. When the police picks her up, she pretends to have amnesia and is taken to the police station. There she's surprised to get presented to her alleged parents. Not knowing yet what kind of game they play, she goes home with them and lets the rich couple coddle her.
