A group of young actors, ambitious and naive, dream of their big breakthrough, criticize the theater school, want to revolutionize theater, and never compromise, but are very uncertain about the future and their own identity.

Hilleborg always speaks negatively about her king's marriage to his left hand, Countess Danner. When it is rumored that King Frederik VII and Countess Danner are on their way to Hilleborg and her husband, Niels Parsberg's estate, Hilleborg refuses to be in the living room with the Countess. She switches roles with the housemaid, Lise Sørensen. Lise and Countess Danner quickly become good friends, while Hilleborg's situation worsens when the king decides to spend the night at the estate.

Long and Short now come upon the idea of hiring a brickworks, whose owner turns out to be Elinor’s uncle. The young folk singer Peter Jespersen has returned from abroad and is now without a contract. He approaches director Andresen of the Alhambra Theatre, but is rejected, and Peter understands from the conversation that it will be important for him to get an impresario who can take care of the business for him. He approaches the theatre agents Bang and Mathisen, whose motto is: "If you have the talent, we will get you the contract".

Eight separate family dramas (uncovering many aspects of deceit) are woven together to the sound of a certain Chopin waltz.

In 1801, the composer Weyse's cousin, the cheerful Henriette Frisch, advised her cousin to take in some student boarders in the house, so that he would not have to provide so much musical information, but could have more time to compose. At the Central Theatre in the chorus girls' cloakroom, the girls have a very lively discussion: The ever-recurring topic - their various male acquaintances. The only one who doesn't join in the joke is the pretty Mette Madsen. She thinks her friends are frivolous and stupid. Honor, morality and the "right" outlook on life are paramount. And these concepts were by no means something to be made fun of, which can be somewhat annoying when you remember that this film is based on the English play "Bank Holiday", which took a good English fart on virtues and morality. Inger Holst is a nursing student who, at a party, meets the unreal Jørgen Frandsen, who invites her to a "festive night" one weekend at a hotel in Tisvilde. However, a tragic incident occurs at the hospital where she works. The incident involves the young widower, engineer Berg, whom she has come to know as a fine, real and sympathetic person. Inger's compassion makes her offer to give up her weekend trip and stay with him.

The young successful author Eva Saabye surprises both her publisher William Nerup and the literary critic Dr. Hennings, who is a good friend of hers, by not wanting to publish the last book she has written. One day Eva takes the manuscript for her novel out of the drawer, and as she starts leafing through it, we are drawn into its plot. The book, titled "I Met a Murderer", has Eva Saabye as one of the main characters.

On a dark and gloomy evening, the heirs of the deceased millionaire Jensen-Bosch gather at his old castle to hear his last wishes. The darkness lies close around the old castle, everything portends evil. As long as the family has existed, it has never been able to agree. When the will is read, seriousness spreads across their faces, and defiance and anger can be read in the expectant eyes.
