Based on Kafka's story of the same name, "The Metamorphosis" tells the story of a traveling salesman, Gregor Samsa, who wakes up one morning to find himself transformed into a gigantic insect.

The film takes place in Russia, America and Japan. The main character Vladimir Ognev is the son of a family of immigrants from Russia. in the early 2000s, he lives and studies in the USA. he has a brilliant scientific career and a happy personal life. after defending his dissertation, Vladimir receives an offer from the UN special department to study the scenario: how will humanity react if it finds out that an alien civilization exists and has been in constant contact with us for many years? over time, Vladimir realizes that this scenario is not as fantastic as it seems. now the future of the earth depends on his work.

The lack of spirituality and the limitations of the “respectable” bourgeois turn the values of art into a means of profit, into an object of vanity.

The quirky Chichikov settles into a tiny room filled with strange objects. Suddenly, the space around him comes to life: the curtains whisper nonsense, the cabinets slam shut, and the floorboards creak slyly. It seems as though Chichikov has stepped inside his famous little box, and the dead souls—neatly copied by him—have found their voice, risen up, and begun a devilish dance around their captor.

I was reminded of people who were not exactly "healthy" according to everyday logic, but were nevertheless genius: Vrubel, Fedotov, Van Gogh. And always—Dostoevsky. Who would have benefited if all these great artists had been healthy? Illness caused them a great deal of suffering, but, when expressed through their creativity, it still brought about such stunning results. So, here it is entirely appropriate to ask: is it necessary to cure them? - Valeriy Fokin.

Mikhail Kozakov reads the fables of Ivan Andreevich Krylov and memories about him by Ivan Sergeyevich Turgenev. The film features works by the Honored Artist of the RSFSR, D.Yu. Mitylansky.

The poem "The Tambov Treasurer's Wife" by M.Yu. Lermontov is read by the actor Mikhail Kozakov.
