An idealistic Kusum writes a play celebrating modernization, produced by her lover Ramesh, drawing the ire of the villainous Madhav. A local Raja also seeks Kusum's hand, offering to settle her father's debts. This complex situation escalates into kidnappings and murders before a happy ending. Known for its musical numbers, this big-budget drama ultimately led to the demise of Krishna Film Studio.

One such sign of progress is in the village where two childhood sweethearts, namely Jeet and Vijay live. Vijay lives with his mom and brother Ratan. Self-respecting Vijay leaves the house, and Ratan plans to marry Jeet, and schemes with some villagers that will revolutionize his plans for progress, and make Vijay the culprit.

The film depicts Omar Khayyam's life, including his rejection of dancer Mahru, which prompts her and rival Ghiyas Beg to persecute him. Despite exile and suffering, Khayyam persists in his humanitarian and scientific work. The plot concludes with his unjust conviction and death sentence for treason, followed by eventual vindication.
