A young Korean foreign student in Britain feels isolated and longs for home.

Based on the best-selling English novel The Island by Victoria Hislop, the series takes place on the island of Spinalonga, off the coast of Crete, and in the village of Plaka which lies within swimming distance across it. The series premiered on 11 October 2010 to record ratings and critical acclaim. It is the most expensive Greek television production ever with a budget of €4 million.

George, a charismatic 11 year-old boy, moves with with father and two siblings to a village in Crete, trying to start over after his mother's death. From the very first night, George's nightmares begin to come to life. But he won't have to face them alone, since he soon becomes member of the "Commandos", a local kids' gang. Together, they take up the mission of freeing a "weird" young man, Dodo, from the chains of the infamous "Dragons" gang and put an end to the vendetta that haunts the village. To make that happen they will need to confront the dark force that sows discord between the villagers for hundreds of years.

Opposite Plaka, a beautiful village in Crete, stands Spinalonga, the island with the old Venetian fortress, the island that for decades was the mandatory place of exile for lepers. With the help of high-quality dramatizations, the stories, suffering and agonies of lepers (often referred to as "hansenists", those who suffer from "Hansen's Disease") will emerge in their attempt to secure decent living conditions. In the wake of the great television success "The Island", director Thodoris Papadoulakis is filming this dramatized documentary that was broadcast as an extra episode on Mega Channel. Doctors, sociologists, historians, people who interacted with leprosy patients, as well as cured leprosy patients who lived on Spinalonga, speak about the ancient disease, the deformities it caused, the social effects of confinement, and the struggle of those isolated on the island for better living conditions.
