A young woman moves to rural Taiwan to live with her extended family during her parents' divorce. She and her two cousins navigate romantic complications and relations with the indigenous Taiwanese in this adaptation of a Chiung Yao novel.

Xiao Cao is a young orphan living with her cruel aunt and uncle. She has a sisterly bond with her neighbour, Qing Qing, who is being forced into a marriage with a much older man by her older brother. Desperate to escape their unfortunate circumstances, the two girls manage to run away together on the day of Qing Qing's wedding. After a few initial misunderstandings the three decide to travel together. However, things become complicated when they encounter the Fu family, and the family matriarch mistakes He Shiwei for her son, Fu Yuankai, who died 10 years ago.

A talented woman painter falls in love with a gallery owner, who is married. His son falls in love with her niece at first sight. The painter gets along well with the gallery owner's grown son and daughter. In order to keep their family united, his son and daughter ask her to withdraw from her love relationship, and she promises to do so to save the gallery owner's marriage.
