Three on the beach

Julia gives birth to a boy, Iván, whose father is unknown. His mother, Mrs. Brackets, is unable to accept a bastard grandson into the family. Marta, Julia's friend, proves to be her only lifeline despite the turbulent waters. And Carolina, the nanny, a devoted fan of Emma Suárez and aspiring actress, will go from being a tangential witness to these relationships to becoming infected by their dysfunctionality.

The two friends in Two Looks have seen less complicated times together. Though we never hear their names or see them interact with the world outside of their stylish desert house, their exchanges are the sort that speak volumes with a well-placed breath. Waking to find themselves naked and entangled, the first to leave the bed is bewildered. Along with her, we begin to put together the pieces of their night as she trips on empty wine bottles and endures a deep struggle in the shower, trying to scrub the night off of her skin. Clearly, their friendship can never be the same, and she’s unwilling to accept that change.

A young couple reach their vacations destination at the small island of La Palma. As they meet some thrilling characters like the housekeeper and Fernanda, the woman who cleans the house, they discover their relationship is not as good as they thought.

Editor and short filmmaker Carlos Agulló chooses a particularly difficult subject to begin his career as a documentary filmmaker with Los demás días: the moving daily life of Dr. Pablo Iglesias, a palliative care doctor, who shows us the demanding and emotional gaze of those who have to face death and offers us a whole lesson in life.
