Seven Men Alive or Dead

Cowboy escaping from the drought in the Northeast Brazil meets some officers led by a cruel lieutenant, whose main objective was to catch organized outlaws and invade the small town of Juazeiro. They arrest and torture him, hoping he would tell them the whereabouts of Padre Cícero, a prominent religious leader of the place. But he manages to escape and arrives in Juazeiro. The police invade the city and arrest the believers who were celebrating a party for Padre Cícero.

Carlito, a bank clerk in Rio de Janeiro, is an engrained megalomaniac. Aided by his girlfriend Marta, he executes a wild plan that involves Milton de Souza, a married businessman, director of a factory.

Young robber, son of a prostitute who had killed herself, gets involved with two police informers, who force him to share the loot he gets.

It is a film about the deep Brazil, not Brazil as a society, state or experience; it is a film about a geological, prehistoric and pre-logical Brazil. The adventures of the Caribbean monster, its wanderings along a virgin beach evoke, before Brazil, the artistic wanderings of a filmmaker in constant friction and, why not say, struggle against the mommy-daddy cinema, produced without taste, without joy and without adventure.

Cropped hair, a rosemary branch behind the ear, yellow shirt of shiny satin, he's behind the wheel of his car when passing by a woman who walks by the roadside. Strongly painted lips, printed dress with round skirt and red shoes matching the color of the lipstick, she catches his attention. He gives her a ride, the two of them stare in silence for a few moments. They introduce themselves to one another and between the two establishes an absurd dialogue and full of metaphors. And they are driving around in corners of Rio de Janeiro, to the sound of Noel Rosa and Lamartine Babo. Eva and Antena, she a seer, he, an assassin on the run, initiate an unusual case of love, a marginal love, where boredom often gives way to tragedy, creating the agony of a holiday spent in an abyss.

The Gerimum Trio arrives in Rio de Janeiro wanting to make it big in their artistic careers. They struggle with great difficulties and even sing in the street. The police pursue the three, who end up in the place they most want to be: a television studio. Mistaken for northeastern congressmen, they are taken to the TV director-general, Mr. Walter. Shortly after, Marly, the advertising star, and her secretary, Josias, enter. A heated argument ensues, but the situation is resolved when the real congressmen show up.

Humble officials, friends Didi, Dedé, Mussum and Zacarias become the great attraction of the circus Bartolo, thanks to its incredible ability to make the public laugh. But success has a price: the opposition of the magician Assis Satan and the greed of the Baron, the owner of the circus. Together, the four friends will have to fight them.

Born a fully grown black man in a village in the Brazilian jungle, Macunaíma later magically transforms into a white man before making an adventure-filled trip to the city of São Paulo. Once there, he becomes something of a dandy, falling in love with Ci, a revolutionary who dies in an accidental bombing. After robbing a ruthless industrialist, Macunaima returns to his village where he finds his newly acquired knowledge and possessions of little use.

The fictional encounter in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil (in the 30s) between popular songwriter Lamartine Babo and inconoclast poet and playwright Oswald de Andrade.

Tonho Tiê really likes living free, playing capoeira and drinking. During Carnival he meets beautiful Zulmira; they pledge love and projects for many children. But time passes and Tonho returns to being the womanizer he had always been. Zulmira, daughter of Iansã, cannot stand Tonho's brazenness, and asks her saint-mother to wash her honor with blood.

Bonga, his three friends and his girlfriend Loló care for abandoned children in a cave on the outskirts of a city. One day, Pedrinho runs away from home and goes to live in the cave. His father, a powerful industrial, offers a reward to anyone who brings the child back.

Severino do Quixadá (Renato Aragão), a humble northeastern shepherd of goats, rescues Captain Virgulano or simply Captain (Nelson Xavier) and his band of cangaceiros of an ambush armed by the lieutenant Zé Bezerra (Jose Dumont), its eternal persecutor. Captain escapes taking with him the mysterious box that he removed from the interior of the assaulted train in the city of Cajarana. Seeking to escape the shooting, Severino ends up finding himself in the cangaceiros' camp, along with the mishap friends Mussum and Zacarias who, taking advantage of the confusion, fled the chain.
