A Hustle Bustle New Year

Adapted from the classical 14th century novel of the same title by Luo Guanzhong, Romance of the Three Kingdoms is part historical, part legend, and part mythical – romanticises and dramatises the lives of feudal lords and their retainers, who tried to replace the dwindling Han dynasty or restore it. The focus is mainly on the three power blocs that emerged from the remnants of the Han dynasty, and would eventually form the three states of Cao Wei, Shu Han, and Eastern Wu.

Before the Beijing Asian Games in 1990, a group of elementary school kids compete for the chance to participate in a martial arts performance for the opening ceremony. In this coming-of-age story, kind-hearted An Jianjun pursues his dreams through sweat and tears, friendship and betrayal. The comedy depicts Beijing locals in precise, humorous, and loving detail.

Many years ago Mr. Six was a notorious gangster. That was back when there was still such a thing as honour among thieves, when criminals earned respect and maintained principles. These days Mr. Six is all but forgotten, a living relic residing in a narrow alley. One day Six's son, Xiaobo, is abducted by some spoiled punks after he scratches their precious Ferrari. Mr. Six realizes that he must do whatever it takes to get his son back — even if that means returning to the life he thought he had left behind.

Qiushui served as an army doctor during the Korean War, where he met Wang Jindi, a nurse from Shanghai who fell in love with him instantly. Years had gone by, Qiushui married Jindi and settled in Tibet. While in Taiwan, Biyun buried Qiushui's mother and continued to pray for his return. Flashback to modern time, Biyun is living in New York. Her niece played by Isabella Leong, a writer, has travelled to Tibet to find out what happened to Qiushui. Through the pictures she sends back via internet, Biyun finally gets to see the familiar face once again.

Xinghua lives with her husband, who makes money by selling stones from the Great Wall. But she is unable to give him a son to inherit this wealth. When her husband hatches a plan to tear down the local historic fortress to find a legendary hidden treasure, she finds herself drawn to a gentler, more educated man who wants to preserve it.

At the end of the Qing Dynasty, Lin Zexu, an imperial envoy, braved the hardships of destructed opium in Humen, and actively and forcefully faced foreign invaders to arouse the patriotism of the Chinese nation.

This film tells the story of Zhang Si De, a model of the Chinese People's Liberation Army. In the late period of the War of Resistance Against Japan, Yan'an was in a mass production movement. The service soldier Zhang Si De (Wu Jun) is honest, unspoken, never invites merits for doing good things, works hard and never complains, and devotes himself to the Chinese revolutionary cause.

Set in China's oil fields, the film follows enthusiastic young workers pushing forward the nation’s modernization. Liu Sicheng (Liu Ye), a top performer, idolizes oil hero Wang Jinxi (Wu Gang) and is proud of his father, Liu Wenrui (Zhang Duo), who once worked alongside him. Meanwhile, Zhao Yilin (Huang Bo), a cynical youth, questions his father's legacy. Flashbacks reveal the hardship faced by Wang and his team when they arrived in barren Daqing, working five days straight to help China shed its "oil-poor" label. Wang’s iconic moment—jumping into cement despite an injury—becomes legendary.

Documentary about China's film industry and the monumental changes in the past 40 years from beginning with propaganda films to the "5th generation" filmmakers and beyond, who embraced art and commercial films to make China the second largest box office market in the world after Hollywood.
