The Count of the Old Town

Based on the novel by Edith Unnerstad about a man, Pip Larsson, who invents a new kind of pot which makes a sound when the stuff you are cooking is ready. As he can't pay the bills he and his family get evicted but luckely they have a couple of carriages they can live in and travel round the country, selling the new kind of pots Pip Larsson has invented.

It's the last night of 1899. In Helsingfors they celebrate the new millennium. The students at the university are dancing and among them is Helge Ulfstjerna.

When Sten, at a mature age, is to study for his preliminary degree at the University of Lund, he is given a place to stay with Mrs. Lindgren on Adelgatan. His entrance into the city of learning is somewhat embarrassing,

Banking director Anders Berg in Gothenburg has found reason to terminate his former secretary Vivi Lundgren, who obviously did everything to vamp him.

In a magnificent villa a 25-year-old son of Count lives with his family. He falls in love with an elementary school teacher. So does even his father the Count.

Carlsson arrives at the widow Flod's farm in the Stockholm archipelago to help in the running of it. He is met with resistance by the widow's jealous son Gusten who is more interested in fishing than farming. When it is decided to hire out some houses for summer guests from the city the equilibrium is disturbed.

Set in th 1930's depression times. A wealthy industrialist suffers a stroke. His wife takes over both family and business. The son worships his mother, but is forced to choose sides when he falls in love with the poor Aina.

"Rolling Sea" - After a longer stay at the hospital, the young Martin comes to Gothenburg and notice that his fiancee Sonja has met another man.

The General's daughter, Helene, grows up in a safe world. She doesn't want to get married or have kids. She meets a man who talks about platonic love which seems to fit her nice. They get married but when he wants to get more intimate with her she rejects him. August Strindberg's short story "Mot betalning" from the collection "Giftas 2".

Claus, an unhappy 28 year old Norwegian insurance company employee quits his job in Oslo and heads for Sweden in order to figure out who he really is. In his travels he meets and falls in love with Liss, a liberated small town woman, but they both have trouble considering a long-term commitment which will curtail their treasured freedom. After separating, Claus heads north and joins a surveying team, where he finds himself attracted to a country girl. Will the big city boy settle down in the rugged wilds of the Northlands, or will he return to the south and negotiate a commitment to Liss.

Mr. Markurell the innkeeper has great aspirations for his son and he doesn't hesitate to pull a few strings to ensure his son's success at school, causing great scandal in the process.

An alcoholic, abusive ne'er-do-well is shown the error of his ways through a legend that dooms the last person to die on New Year's Eve before the clock strikes twelve to take the reins of Death's chariot and work tirelessly collecting fresh souls for the next year.

Olof is driven from home when he wants to marry the wrong girl. He takes a job as a log driver and his reputation as a womanizer goes far and wide.

Jan Froman is a young man with great plans for the future. He gets a job as an assistant janitor at a bank, but with inherited money he starts to buy and sell real estate which eventually increases in value. He falls in love with Margareta, whose father is a naval officer. Margareta is slighted by her fiance and follows Froman on a sailing trip in the archipelago. Plot by Mattias Thuresson.

The Swedish/American actor Jack Harris visits the old country for the first time in his life. One of the journalist, Ingrid Billberg, is particularly interested in getting an interview with him. She finds out secret information about his next movie, and to stop her from revealing it, Jack Harris gets her alone with him on an isolated island in the archipelago. Romance blossoms... 1813. The Swedish army is fighting in the War of the Sixth Coalition. The popular general Von Döbeln is arrested for sending the army against the French in breach of orders by the crown prince. At the court martial he is sentenced to death but is pardoned by the king and sent to prison instead. A group of conspirators are planning to set him free and make him their leader in a coup d'etat.
