A young actress, dismissed as untalented by a famous and admired mime, takes revenge for the insult by playing so many roles for him in his house - from maid to abused wife and tender mother to vamp - that in the end he discovers not only her talent but also his love for her.

After being sexually assaulted, a farmer's daughter, rejected by her parents, ends up with pimps and whores in a brothel until an honest car mechanic frees her.

Dr. Ádám Koltay flees the city. Although he is the darling of society, he has grown weary of the emptiness of social life. An unfortunate accident causes Vera to disappear in deep water, and Endre notifies the police, telling Inspector Kántor the bad news. Eventually she is lucky enough to be found, but she doesn't want to hear anything about the toy maker. Endre's fatherly friend, Uncle Reményi, is very taken with the serious girl and decides to bring the young people together.

In the story, the golden watch is a metaphor: life of an individual for whom honesty is of real value. Uncle Bogdán is the one to have the golden watch, which is all the "fortune" he has, apart from Juci, his only daughter, who supports him
