After a Dream

Live broadcast of the opera performance held on November 10, 2012 at the Opéra national de Lorraine in Nancy, performed by five world-class countertenors.

Agathe embarks on a journey to uncover the life of her grandmother, Solange, an artist and writer whose story intertwines with history, memory, and loss. Joined by filmmaker Louise, an old friend, they navigate family films, letters, and the past to connect generations. Through Agathe’s search, the documentary reveals buried emotions and traces a legacy across time.

Victoria, a little black girl aged 8 from a humble background, happens to spend the night with the bourgeois family of Thomas, one of her classmates. Years later, they see each other again and Marie is the fruit of their fleeting relationship. But Victoria decides not to tell Thomas and raises her child alone. When Marie turns seven, Victoria decides that her daughter must have a better future and again turns to this family that she lost sight of long ago.

After World War II, the orderly life of a deputy secretary of state for family affairs, who had succeeded in closing brothels and increasing penalties for abortion offenses, is turned upside down when he learns on the same day that his wife is expecting a child and that his son has impregnated his secretary! This is only the beginning of a series of unexpected events that will shake up the foundations of this bourgeois family...

Two brothers, Pierre and Vladimir, wonder if their Russian grandparents, Lily and Constantin, worked for the Soviet secret services in Paris during the 1930s and 1940s. Their research begins in Russia. After meetings and conversations, yellowish photos and vodka glasses, a lost world begins to emerge harassing the present.

When dancer, choreographer and acrobat Yoann Bourgeois was invited by the Center des Monuments Nationaux to create a performance for the Pantheon in Paris, he chose the fight against gravity as his leitmotif. “The Mechanics of History – an attempt to approach a point of suspension” became a dizzying performance that took place in the ridge of this historic dome. The Great Ghosts is a cinematographic adaptation of this special project in a breathtaking setting. Balance and movement are the starting points for the choreography, with the famous Foucault Pendulum as the constant center. Bourgeois uses trampolines, a turntable and his famous “seesaw of frivolity”, with which he defies gravity and balances between beauty and fear. How far do the dancers dare to go while playing with Foucault’s Pendulum? And for how long?

This is the story of a lyrical singer and an Afghan refugee. With songs and introspection, hope and disappointment.

On June 14 and 15, 2025, in the Pierre Boulez auditorium, the Philharmonie de Paris welcomed the acrobats of the Australian company Circa for their show En masse, a creation combining contemporary circus and classical music—the fiery tale of a fallen civilization and its rebirth, carried by great pieces from the repertoires of Franz Schubert and Igor Stravinsky. German tenor Hans Jörg Mammel, an accomplished interpreter of the Austrian composer, sang several excerpts from the Lieder, while pianists Tanguy de Williencourt and Thomas Enhco, virtuosos of the young French scene, performed a duet that captured all the cataclysmic verve of The Rite of Spring.

To mark his forty-year career, choreographer Angelin Preljocaj has revived ‘Le Parc’, one of his most iconic works, at the Paris Opera. Set to music by Mozart, this romantic ballet depicts the games of love and chance, starring Alice Renavand and Mathieu Ganio.

With "L(oo)ping," Rone takes us on a unique journey. An extraordinary project, carried out with the Orchestre national de Lyon and nine dancers. "L(oo)ping" is a singular film-object, combining electronic music, dance, symphonic music, and many other surprises.

In January 2009 at Paris's Cité de la Musique, the internationally renowned conductor Vladimir Jurowski led the Chamber Orchestra of Europe in a varied and imaginative programme that included Strauss's Le Bourgeois Gentilhomme and Metamorphosen, as well as Ravel's Piano Concerto in G. Their sensitive and insightful performance is reproduced here in full, and they are joined by award-winning French pianist Hélène Grimaud in a lively rendition of Ravel's concerto, in which soloist and orchestra expertly tease out its whimsical lyricism and sonorous harmonies.

The opera is based on the Biblical tale of Samson and Delilah found in Chapter 16 of the Book of Judges in the Old Testament. It is the only opera by Saint-Saëns that is regularly performed. The second act love scene in Delilah's tent is one of the set pieces that define French opera. Two of Delilah's arias are particularly well known: "Printemps qui commence" and "Mon cœur s'ouvre à ta voix", the latter of which is one of the most popular recital pieces in the mezzo-soprano/contralto repertoire. Staged by greek director Yannis Kokkos and conducted by Valery Gergiev on May 25th, 2016 at the Mariinsky Theatre.
