The collection consists of five short stories: "The Meeting," "One of Many," "At the Old Nanny's," "One Hundred for One," and "The Incident at the Telegraph Office."

Vitya Maleev's mother takes away her son's football, but the friends invent new entertainments, and the number of failing grades in their diaries grows alarmingly.
