Based on a play by a German-Jewish exile in Moscow, Friedrich Wolf, and directed by an Austrian-Jewish exile in Moscow, Herbert Rappaport, the film tells with the story of an apolitical humanitarian Jewish doctor and his politically-aware, fascism-resisting son, an intern, as their lives become entangled with the Nazis’ rise to power in 1930s Germany, where they live and practice. Things come to a head when the Nazi organization takes control of their hospital, and place a rabid antisemitic physician in charge over Mamlock and his staff.

Russian Pioneers

1918. Workers from Petrograd come to Altai region to establish the first agricultural commune. In spite of the hostility of the local White Army cossacks the workers build houses, cultivate land. The poor peasants are turning towards the commune. However, White Army cossacks take vengeance on the members of the commune.

Killed at Dawn

A film about Alexander Ulyanov (1866-1887), the organizer and leader of the “Terrorist Faction” of the Narodnaya Volya party, the older brother of Vladimir Lenin, participant in the preparation of the assassination attempt (03/01/1887) on Alexander III. Alexander Ulyanov was executed by hanging in the Shlisselburg fortress.

I Love You, Life

Timofej Korneev is a fresh member of the Communist Party. He works as an engineer for Leningrad candy factory. Since most of its colleagues are young girls he soon finds himself in a love triangle. Moreover, there's a third girl trapped by a scheming Jehovah Witnesses sect. Will Timofej be able to stop the brainwashing?

Nicholas I exiles the poet to the distant Caspian fort where he is to serve as an ordinary soldier and is banned from writing or drawing. In the poet's difficult days he has the support of Ukrainian soldier Skobelev, Polish revolutionary Sierakowski, captain Kosarev and the commandant of the fortress, Uskov. For the sake of his release Chernyshevsky and Dobrolyubov are hard at work. And so, the sick and aged Shevchenko is finally free. Together with Chernyshevsky and Dobrolyubov, he dreams of a bright future of the motherland, when the Russian and Ukrainian peoples throw off the chains of slavery.

When Zvantsev, an opponent of Pavlov’s materialist worldview, leaves the laboratory, the scientist hires Varvara Ivanova who becomes his most reliable assistant. 1912: Pavlov receives an honorary doctorate from Cambridge University. 1917: Despite Pavlov’s political scepticism, the Bolshevik administration treats him with great respect.

Belinsky
