'Afghanistan 1979: the war that changed the world', is a French documentary about the Sovjet invasion in Afghanistan in 1979. It was one of the most crucial events of the 20th century, and changed the world forever. This documentary gives a good insight in the Afghan-Russian war ; the alliance between the Russian and Afghan communist governments ; Islamic resistance ; the support of America for the resistance and its consequences on the war.

Dushanbe, Tajikistan, former USSR. In this city where old houses are destroyed and their occupants are evicted all around, Rimma and her granddaughter Katia are waiting for the scheduled demolition of their old house in order to be rehoused in one of the buildings that are springing up everywhere in the city. The preparations for the move disrupt their daily life. French-Tajik filmmaker Gulya Mirzoeva follows their intimacy and their journey towards a new life.

The film focuses on the story of a shepherd minstrel Hayri Dev from Denizli, Çameli district. He was made known by the French etnomusicologist Jerome Cler. After Cler realized this film in Super-16 in Fall of 1998, together with Gulya Mirzoeva, Dev became so famous as to give concerts and lessons on music in France and he was selected as a Living Human Treasure of Cultural Heritage by UNESCO. The story of the film is simple. Hayri Dev decides to go to visit his old friend and a violonist Akkulak, for coming back with him in his village and for bringing back the festivities, weddings of their youth, called 'yarenlik' (from the beautiful Persian Word yar, meaning friend or beloved one). This ended in a small countyman's 'road movie' through magnificent landscapes, sprinkled with episodes reflecting this universe of the 'Western Turkomen".
