After being sent to stay with his grandfather, a Cheyenne teen uncovers a connection to his family and community in a way he never thought possible.

Demanding customers, stolen sushi, and the festive mayhem on Christmas Eve push some life back into their lives and get them to dream just a bit more. Set in urban Honolulu, DASHER is a local take on what’s likely a nationwide story for young people living the gig economy – where working long hours just to get by discourages any life beyond the next gig.

Six Kānaka ʻŌiwi (Native Hawaiians) share their voyages in and out of diaspora. Their collective moʻolelo (story) wades through hope, grief, wisdom, and the effects of the illegal occupation of their homeland. They share the pull they have felt to return to Hawaiʻi and ka ʻāʻumeʻume (the struggle) to stay.

It turns out that kupuna (Hawaiian elders) have kept the story secret for almost a century. Why? They didn't want it told incorrectly or commercialized. But given advancing age and a world in need, they decided it was time to share the story.
