A Heart of Gold

Topping the list of 100 Best Egyptian Films, this classic musical melodrama launched the film career of one of Egypt’s greatest singers and composers, Mohamed Abdel Wahhab. Galal Effendi, the son of an impoverished aristocrat, is forced to leave his studies to seek employment. After a short stint as a clerk, however, Galal discovers his musical talents and finds success as a popular singer. Through its story of upward mobility based on merit rather than influence, the film examines the emergence of Egyptian middle-class identity.

Dunia meets the rich, frivolous young man, Mohamed. An illegitimate relationship develops between them and she becomes pregnant with his child. Mohamed disappears and she cannot face anyone with her child, so she decides to kill him. Her secret is revealed and she goes to prison. She decides to take revenge on him and searches for him until she finds him. She hides her past from him, but she is surprised that he shows her his love and decides to marry her and introduces her to his family, which puts her in a conflict between love and revenge. The mother reveals Dunia's past and she decides to commit suicide.

A wealthy man with a circle of friends falls seriously ill. The son quickly arrives with his fiancée, who discovers that he left her in a hotel and went to see his father alone. His father scolds him when he learns that he completed his engagement without seeing his fiancée and insists on seeing her. The son returns to the hotel and does not find his fiancée, so he agrees with a girl to play the role of his fiancée.

Raqia loves her neighbor Fouad and they promise to get married, but unfortunately for the girl, her father and mother divorce. Her uncle comes to live with her and she finds his fanaticism very difficult, which forces her to leave the house and seek refuge with her father. A young man with a talent for singing cannot find his way in it. He finds work as a driver for a pasha, and by chance discovers that this pasha is trying to steal the money of his niece, who is the guardian of her property. He decides to reveal this theft to the girl he has already begun to love. She lies to him and distances herself from him, but with time she discovers that her uncle is actually stealing from her and is trying to marry her to his son in order to seize everything. She returns once again, regretting it, to her lover.

Mohamed Fathy rents a new apartment facing the palace of Taher Pasha, Nadia's father. A misunderstanding occurs between Fathy and Nadia, and he discovers that she is the niece of his boss at the Bank of Egypt. As soon as Nadia complains to him, he decides to transfer him to Beni Suef. Fathy discovers the truth about the misunderstanding, and they fall in love. Nadia tries to request that the transfer order be cancelled.

Romeo and Juliet set in 1940's Egypt. Two families are feuding but their children love each other, thus rejecting the premise that love is forbidden between them.

Lawyer Raouf meets Yasriya Hanem, the daughter of Hassan Bey Abu El-Dahab, and falls in love with her and tries to reach her. Raouf bets with his friend that Raouf will marry Yasriya. A quarrel occurs that ends with the friend's lover shooting Raouf. The sound of the bullets restores his cousin's sight and she nurses him. Raouf marries her after he is certain that his love for her is stronger than his love for Yasriya.

Zeinab, a simple worker in a farm falls in love with her supervisor but she is forced by her family to marry a rich man

Led by his lust and his unrepentant consciousness, Hamdy abandons his family and takes a french lady as his mistress. When his mistress cheats on him, Hamdy shoots her lover in retaliation. After spending his prison sentence, he returns to Egypt, haunted by his sense of guilt.
