Blackmail

A uranium deposit brings turmoil to the small South American republic of Guatalpa. Between two revolutions, the government tries unsuccessfully to decide whether the Americans, Soviets or Cubans will exploit the concession. Delegates from these nations spy on and betray each other to achieve their goal.

It all happens in a hospital waiting room. While his young wife has just had a serious accident and is undergoing surgery, the husband relives, in his memory, the reality of their near past, or what he would have liked his marital union to be. At the outset, this young couple took as their model the famous couple from "Les Liaisons Dangereuses" and their line of conduct: complete freedom for everyone, as long as they confide in each other about their adventures.

An inexperienced, sickly priest shows up in the rural French community of Ambricourt, where he joins the community's clergy. But the locals don't take kindly to the priest, and his ascetic ways and unsociable demeanor make him an outcast. During Bible studies at the nearby girls school, he is continually mocked by his students. Then his attempt to intervene in a family feud backfires into a scandal. His failures, compounded with his declining health, begin to erode his faith.

The series follows a group of Allied pilots who crashed in occupied territories during WWII. A network of civilians and Resistance fighters, "La Filière", is in charge of helping them pass from France to Spain so they can avoid capture.

When the police threaten to throw her in the Bastille, Carrel agrees to turn informer, with the expected disastrous results.

An upper-class corporal is captured by the Germans during their 1940 invasion of France. Assisted and accompanied by characters as diverse as a morose dairy farmer, a waiter, a myopic intellectual, a working-class Parisian, and a German dental assistant, the corporal tries to escape from prison camps, sometimes making it a few yards, sometimes reaching the border.
