Elysian Fields

The story of a girl who recently graduated from school and works as a projectionist. Her ideas about life are taken from films starring Greta Garbo, romantic literature, and advice from her practical friend. This "explosive mixture" prevents her from hearing herself and causes her to act rashly.

Isaac Berg is the only Jew in a small town who miraculously survived during the german occupation. The old man is haunted by one idea - he decided to raise the gravestones with which the nazis paved the road and take them to where his loved ones were killed.

The action takes place in a backwater small town. The story of the life of a married couple - Colonel Yagich and his wife Sophia Lvovna, a young woman, and their friend - a military doctor, who is called, like Sonechka's husband, Vladimir. Partly to spite Volodya the little man who once did not reciprocate her feeling, Sonechka married Yagich, who is thirty years older than she is. Soon the longing came - she did not love her husband. Soniechka rushes back to Volodya the little, and they begin a stormy romance...

Masha is a young, energetic girl, who has decided to make an adventurous journey across mountain Crimea. On the road she meets a funny man in a bowler hat and vest, who is trying to start his old car with a sledgehammer. Masha decided to become a fellow traveler of the mysterious mustachioed character.

A farmer and his wife live in a rural part of Inner Mongolia with their three children. Chinese population control policies prevent them from having any more. The farmer sets out for the nearest town to obtain birth control. He comes upon a Russian truck driver who has ended up in a lake. The farmer takes the man back to his farm, and after initially being appalled, the Russian becomes enchanted with the peaceful life of the countryside and decides to stay. But his presence presages big changes for the peasants.

June 1946: Stalin invites Russian emigres to return to the motherland. It's a trap: when a ship-load from France arrives in Odessa, only a physician and his family are spared execution or prison. He and his French wife (her passport ripped up) are sent to Kiev. She wants to return to France immediately; he knows that they are captives and must watch every step.

The main character Vorobei is a professional grave digger and alcohol addict, who runs away from hospital to dig graves instead of treating his head broken by his brother. He comes to cemetery and keeps on working, instead of his friends' advice to stay in the hospital. The world of death turns out to be surrounded by corruption, satanic money-making, cemetery mafia and lots of vodka.

Now a new researcher has arrived — a veterinarian, despite the lack of animals at the facility — and the scientists already in place are wondering why.

At a St. Petersburg boarding school, a new life began for the ten-year-old Alyosha, who was accustomed parental attention. Missing his home, Alyosha created an imaginary magic world of underground dwellers, with a king and his subjects who very much resembled the people surrounding the boy. The setting for this off-beat drama of love and jealousy is the Pushkin Poetry Festival in Boldino. Liosha and his wife Tania are walking through the plush forest around Boldino when a mysterious figure pops up from behind a tree and asks the couple a question on an esoteric point of Pushkin scholarship. From that strange beginning, the man, whose name is Klimov, starts to ease himself into the couple's private space, and trouble ensues. Complementing this story is the festival itself, enactments of Pushkin's works, and emotional debates among the festival-goers over the meaning of his poetry.
