Poor, hungry peasant Macario longs for just one good meal on the Day of the Dead. After his wife cooks a turkey for him, he meets three apparitions, the Devil, God, and Death. Martinez has been sentenced to execution at the hands of a firing squad. Carrasco asks to have the revolutionary replaced by absolutely anyone. In a twist of fate, that anyone turns out to be his own long lost son Juan. Upon receiving this news, Marta races to the prison and explains the predicament to Carrasco. He subsequently desperately attempts to prevent the gunning down of his son by his very own government officials.

Ernesto invites Raquel to a party at his home but she is snubbed by his mother and offended by a slighted pretender. Ernesto faces this man in a duel in which he is about to be killed by his rival, but Raquel protects his body and receives the bullet. She dies in Ernesto's arms.

The teacher then goes to the capital. There she becomes part of a family of young students, who believe she is the mistress of his father, so she suffers the scorn and reproach. Over the years the parents die and she renounces to the inheritance they leave her.

A man goes on a trip and then returns to his village pretending that everything went well for him.
