An amateur photographer has accidentally captured something special in a landscape photo from Sweden, something that an alert journalist could turn into a good story. Something that looks like a troll. The magazine, seeing an opportunity for a snappy report, funds an expedition to the supposed troll's lair, and in addition to the photographer and journalist, a skeptical folklorist joins the trip.

Johannes Vig lives a lonely life on Sandø. He is a schoolteacher, and since Sandø is currently cut off from the outside world due to ice, the island's population must fend for themselves. Johannes is secretly in love with both Annemari, the grocer's young daughter, and Rigmor, the farmer's wife. At the same time, Johannes' life is very bleak, and he finds it difficult to express his love. Life on the island is disrupted by Harry, a young engineer who is courting Annemari. Annemari's boyfriend is currently on the mainland, which is why Johannes is watching over her virtue.

Sometime in the 1700s, Mikkel, a farmer from Jutland, wants to marry off his daughter Cecil to the wealthy Mads Egelund, but she is in love with the haberdasher Esben. Mads proposes, but does not receive a definitive answer. Shortly afterwards, Esben leaves for Holsten on business, and Cecil vows to wait for him. A couple of years pass. After an attempt to force Cecil to marry Mads, she is now in a state of insanity. Esben returns home happy and prosperous, but Cecil does not recognize him and, in a fit of madness, she cuts his throat during the night. Some time passes and Cecil regains her sanity. She does not know what she has done and is still waiting for Esben. Mads comes to visit, and after Cecil has rejected yet another marriage proposal, he reveals the truth to her, and with a wild scream she falls back into insanity.

A sort of forerunner to Hollywood's Boogie Nights (1997), this Danish melodrama is set in the world of strip clubs. A medical student (Frits Helmuth) earns money for tuition working in a burlesque joint. He falls for one of the girls (Malene Schwarz), but she is also involved with a movie director (John Price). The director and Helmuth get into a philosophical debate about love and Darwinism, and the film ends with a duel (the film's title). Duellen was met with mostly incomprehension when it premiered and is no more lucid when viewed today. The striptease scene featuring full-frontal nudity is tame by modern standards.

Johannes is a shy and inexperienced young student at the music conservatory. He is a Mozart admirer and in love with his fellow student Elisabeth, who also seems interested in him. The smart and modern Herbert, called Pop, has dropped out of the conservatory and lives as a jazz musician and womanizer. He bets Johannes that he can sleep with Elisabeth before 8 p.m. that same day, since all girls are the same. He wins the bet, while Johannes consoles himself with Solvei, the girl who lives downstairs and works in a grocery store. In the end, Johannes and Elisabeth meet on the stairs. Can they still find each other?

A film depicting youth in the 1930s. Peter Hasvig is captivated by upper-class girl Vera Bagge. At the same time, he breaks up with his girlfriend Ellen. During a trip to Sweden, things don't go quite as Peter would like, as Vera shows more interest in the festive Leslie. Is it too late to get Ellen back? Oh well, it wasn't easy being young in the 1930s either.

Factory worker Vivi is pressured by her boyfriend to pose as a fold-out girl for the men's magazine Ugens Rapport. A man from the neighborhood begins to stalk her and call her. When she goes to the North Sea to find peace, he follows her. On the bus, Vivi meets middle-aged Harriet, a disillusioned man-hater, and they decide to teach her stalker a lesson. However, it takes a more serious turn than Vivi is prepared for.

Finn and Claus are best friends and both have a thing for their cute friend Eva. They both go to Copenhagen to study law but Claus would rather study music/piano and takes private lessons and Finn isn't the academic type. Who gets Eva?
