In Search of the Equator

This European thriller, set in Sri Lanka, attempts to expound upon the philosophical implications of life, death, and memory. JB, an academic famed for his studies of oriental culture and alcoholic who has never recovered from his wife's suicide, returns to Sri Lanka to translate a book written on glass. It is supposed to contain Buddha's discourse upon memory. While he is there, an attractive nurse, Julia asks him to assist a young boy who wants to locate his father who is now living in a Tamil-occupied area. The Tamil terrorists will kill any trespassers. Compounding JB's conflict in deciding to go is that his former home where he lived with his wife is in that area. Unbeknownst to him, the boy is really a Tamil spy.

Alex, a professional tourist guide, is asked to welcome Sacha,a young woman of Russian extraction. She has participated in a contest and, consequently, won a one-week stay in Geneva. From the outset, the young woman shakes up Alex's plans and drags him along with her through a risky and hazardous treasure-hunt at the confines of Eastern Switzerland. Wanted by the police and hunted down by the mafia, Alex and Sacha decide to shake off their pursuers by moving about more slowly than the others: they then advance through lakes and other roundabout ways. While Alex and Sacha sink deeply into an ever stranger Switzerland, they will observe, discover, oppose and finally love each other to the vanishing point.

Swiss drama in the form of a road movie starring Bernadette Lafont. Hairdresser Christelle is harassed daily by her chauvinistic husband until she can no longer stand it and flees. She then meets the strong landlady Mona and learns to see her life from a different perspective.

A father is scheming to have his slightly mental daughter from an earlier marriage killed by allowing a murderous psychopath to be released from the asylum and led to his house. However, the psychopath and the daughter fall for each other.

Alex, a drug-addicted private detective, is forced by the police to track down a gangster on the run. Franck, the gangster, seduces a young girl named Lorette during his escape, takes refuge in her home, and convinces her to become his accomplice in new robberies. Alex, who uses completely irrational methods, decides to take advantage of the misfortune of a young man, Dario, to find Franck. All of these characters will, at some point, cross paths with Ava, a young mythomaniac who records her stories on video.
