The Passage

The story describes Taiwan in the 70s, when it's economy is beginning to take off, and the daily pains of the Taiwanese workers.

In the face of collusion between officials and businessmen and threats and temptations, journalists from "Firewire News" try to uphold justice, stick to their ideals, and write the most authentic and most emotional news reports.

On Marriage focuses on portraying all those struggles that couples encounter when they give up themselves to fulfill their marriage. In this anthology series, each individual episode explores varying meanings of marriage from five unique perspectives.

Just coming out of the jail, depressed and close-hearted, Ah Yu met two men with different characters from each other. One is a businessman, charming and mature; the other is a young supervisor in a factory with a promising future. But these two loves are short-lived, fading away like bubbles on the beach. A-Tek is on a quest to find his favorite metal band, Chthonic, and persuade them to play a benefit protest concert in his southern Taiwan hometown. Can music save a Taiwanese homeowner from a Chinese land grab? He sure hopes so.

A-Te used to be a social movement fanatic. But after suffering the pain of divorce and the death of his child, he changed his profession and became a taxi driver. Ma Le, a young aboriginal man, came to Taipei alone to earn a living on construction sites. However, unable to bear the exploitation, and in a rage, Ma Le accidentally killed a site superintendent and was sentenced to death. A-Te gave Ma Le a ride in his taxi on the night that Ma Le committed the killing and their two fates were thereafter intertwined.

The Qiaotou youth LI Wen-hsin was arrested during the December 10, 1979, demonstration spearheaded by Formosa Magazine. After being thrown into prison, he learned a way to survive: mixing saltwater with white rice. He also recalled wonderful times with his girlfriend A-chun, the joys and suffering he shared with friends and family, and his longing for democracy. In this prison, referred to by inmates as the “Hotel Saltwater,” Wen-hsin and his companions, though suffering greatly, never let their thirst for freedom be extinguished.

There is usually only one full moon every month, but occasionally there are two – and that second full moon is called the Blue Moon. It is said that when a person sees a blue moon and makes a wish, he will be granted a second chance in things.

10+10 is a project initiated by the Taipei Golden Horse Film Festival to demonstrate the solidarity between Taiwanese film-makers. 20 directors are invited to make a 5-minute short film each on the theme of the “Uniqueness of Taiwan,” but allowed total freedom in all other aspects.
