Mixing dramatizations and real-life interviews, this film tells the story of four Jewish children who endured the brutal anti-Semitism of fascist Italy.

1986. Following an accident during a mountain hike, Primo Levi is rescued by a man who is unaware of his history and does not even understand the meaning of the number tattooed on his arm. Faced with this situation, Levi feels the need, once again in his life, to recount his story and, with it, the tragedy of the Holocaust.

The documentary follows the work of those who, in the aftermath of the outbreak of war, immediately took action, even at the risk of their own lives, to secure works of art and tried to understand why, in the event of war, destroying and plundering works of art is one of the first objectives of invading armies in an attempt to eliminate the culture of a nation to erase its memory and annihilate its essence.
