A Good Filmmaker Is A Dead Filmmaker

Solon inhabits a dry, barren space. She begins her mission to nourish the Earth. The landscape and the character herself are changed. The world is born. The woman is born.

André, a teenager, lives in an industrial town in Brazil near an old aluminum factory. One day, a factory worker, Cristiano, suffers an accident. Asked to go to Cristiano’s house to pick up clothes and documents, André stumbles on a notebook, and it’s here that Araby begins — or, rather, transforms. As André reads from the journal entries, we are plunged into Cristiano’s life, into stories of his wanderings, adventures, and loves.

Odete is caught between the past and the future. She goes on a journey, but remains immobile. She faces the abyss and wonders if she will make it out alive.

Juninho, Menor, Neguinho, Adilson and Eldo are young residents of the Bairro Nacional, outskirts of Contagem, in Minas Gerais, Brazil. Divided between work and fun, crime and hope, each will have to find ways of overcoming difficulties and taming the tiger inside their veins.

Three months pass and he’s finally ready to make amends with his wife and follow the birth of his son. But then João is surprised by the mysterious appearance of Max, his best friend, who’s been missing for years and was thought to be dead.

The journeys of a filmmaker-traveler through Brazilian social and cultural landscapes swept up in the hurricane of authoritarian modernization imposed by the military dictatorship: Indigenous peoples, "cavalhadas", and migrants. Through Jorge Bodanzky’s lens, we witness the many faces of the storm battering the ways of life and practices of traditional populations.

Vale do Jaguaribe, Ceará. Following the route of the Aracati wind, the film moves from the beach to the countryside. During this path, it observes the relationship between man and landscape, thetransformations of space and the limits between nature and artifice.

Jorge Bodanzky is, to a large extent, a filmmaker who travels. Constant movement is a hallmark of his creative process, encompassing both personal records and various projects that form the foundation of "Meu Barco É Veleiro". It involves observations and experiences across different continents—a sort of improvised coming-of-age story in which human landscapes reveal the shaping of a unique perspective.
