If things could ever talk

Tehran, Iran, August 19, 1953. A group of Iranian conspirators who, with the approval of the deposed tyrant Mohammad Reza Pahlavi, have conspired with agents of the British MI6 and the US CIA, manage to put an end to the democratic government led by Mohammad Mosaddegh, a dramatic event that will begin the tragic era of coups d'état that, orchestrated by the CIA, will take place, over the following decades, in dozens of countries around the world.

In 1917, two young music students attending the Boston Conservatory bond over a mutual love of folk music. They reconnect a few years later, embarking on a song-collecting trip in the backwaters of Maine.

Four young people under thirty have been sharing an apartment for some time and, stopped by the infection, find themselves facing shadows bigger than living there. The opportunity to make some easy money at the expense of their shady landlord will lead to a crescendo of tension and delirium. The young people's choices and actions will become increasingly ambiguous as the consequences upend their dreams and hopes, fears and loves, until the unexpected ending.

Adele and Sofia, childhood friends now in their thirties, reunite after years apart to fulfill a dream they once shared: reaching the summit of Mount Etna. But something feels off, and a bitter confrontation breaks out, opening old wounds and unveiling deeply buried secrets. They separate just as the volcano begins to tremble. Adele presses on alone, haunted by the wish that she had turned back and reached the crater together with Sofia to listen to the mountain’s magical breathing.

"He and I" narrates the reflections of a woman in her role as wife and mother lived between imposition and choice. Through the editing of the shootings of a single filmmaker who portrays his wife and life, the woman narrates herself being in opposition to her husband’s world, a militant always far from home. A reworking of female status as a political act to tell that love is an act of acceptance of differences and that personal memories are part of the collective history.

Emilia and Caterina write letters to each other, revisiting their adolescent memories and earliest experiences at a boarding school in the 1950s. ​Did they choose the lives they truly wanted, or only those they dared to imagine?
