One day, an exceptionally beautiful girl shows up at Josua Webmann's pawnshop to pawn a golden harp. Josua's apprentice, Klaas, immediately sees her as an angel. That evening, she meets him again and dances with him, causing even the previously indifferent Lissy to take notice of Klaas. Meanwhile, Josua worries about his money and negotiates with an instrument dealer who makes him a generous offer for the harp. The next day, the girl and the harp have disappeared again—but she has left behind unexpected wealth.

In the Danish port city of Belgesund, the caretaker of a private high school has fallen victim to murder. Detective Thomsen takes on the case and finds that behind the clean facade there are abysses. He has five suspects in mind: the teacher Berling, who is having a relationship with a student, the twin brother and sole heir of the murdered man, the murdered man's shady roommate, the primary school teacher Klaus Erikson and his brother Jakob.

Jupiter's wife Juno now also comes to earth and clears things up.

The multi-millionaire Eduard Schlüter takes part under the name Schulze in a raffle of his own Schlüter works and wins a stay at the Grand Hotel. Disguised as a poor swallower, he would like to study the reactions of the hotel staff and guests. As an assistant, he takes his reliable servant Johann with him. The film depicts the fate of the residents of an apartment block in Prague’s Jewish quarter following the invasion by German troops in 1939. An Austrian prince hatches a plan to keep his rival, the Russian czar, busy by keeping him surrounded by beautiful women and away from the negotiating table. The Czar, however, has his own plan—he hires a man who is his exact double to impersonate him and confuse the Austrians by appearing to be everywhere at once. In addition, both the Czar and his double fall for the same woman.

Andreas, a young German student comes to Hungary on an exchange programme. In the Hungarian village he falls in love with the stationmaster's daughter Piroschka and spends much of his time with her. They have an enchanting summer until Andreas gets an invitation to join another young woman at a nearby resort. Piroschka is jealous and follows him there, causing trouble. It takes a long time for Andreas and Piroschka to even talk to each other again. When Andreas has to leave Hungary at the end of his holiday, he is determined to return some day.

Peter Ohlsen, a perpetual student, leads a dissolute life and has been living off his filthy-rich father for years. When Peter comes home drunk from a party with his friends yet again, he finds a three-year-old boy in his bed who had been left with his housekeeper along with a letter. The letter states that Peter is the boy’s father and that he is hereby entrusted with the child’s upbringing.

Countess Franziska "is kidnapped" by a band of robbers. However, her father is not willing to pay the ransom so Franziska changes sides.
