Neon Butterfly: Act II

A melodrama that emotionally depicts a broken couple with sensual scenes. This is the first film by director Toshiki Sato and screenwriter Masahiro Kobayashi, who have produced a number of excellent works. The film painstakingly depicts the heartbreaking endings of a couple who are trapped in the past and gradually falling out of love, and includes a strong scene of sexual passion. Yuko (Satsuki Fuji), who is troubled by her marital relationship, is having an affair with Akiyama (Kikujiro Honda). Fumio (Toru Nakane), who is unable to handle his beloved wife, uses a duplicate key found in an old jacket to sneak into the room where Yuko used to live before their marriage.

The tale follows the intentional non-adventures of quiet Tachibana (Takeshi Ito), a Tokyo drifter who has worked in a suburban sausage shop for several years without forging any real friendships.

A man with a troubled past including incest with a younger sister and the murder of a woman travels to an isolated countryside town in Nagano. There a local who mistakes him for a famous television actor shows him the town's sites, including a strip bar in which the performers remove Heian era costumes. The film's narrative is in an allegorical and disjointed manner with references to Buddhist concepts.

Shuji, an unemployed young man, has been living a haphazard and lethargic life, cheating on his wife with his girlfriends and constantly asking his best friend for loans. Then one day, Shuji takes a train and arrives at a country town. There, he meets Sachiko, a woman who never smiles, and starts working as a live-in employee at the printing house where she works. Shuji has a lot of emotionless sex with Sachiko.
