A top American spy is in charge of a delicate mission. The USA plans to infiltrate several U-boats in the sea of Vladivostok, however they need the soviet surveillance satellite to stay 'blind' for a couple of hours, so this spy is sent to damage the antenna for the satellite. Everything was planned accurately. But the CIA never counted on the relentless pursuit of a frontier guard who sees the spy's parachute on landing.

The head of the regional inspectorate of architectural and construction control, Veprev, writes a critical article to the central newspaper about shortcomings in local construction, thereby causing dissatisfaction with the regional leadership. The protagonist of the play is Vasily Vasilyevich Telkin, a surgeon in the clinical department of plastic and cosmetic surgery, who is preparing to celebrate his 60th birthday. However, an anonymous letter was sent from a higher authority to the institute, making absurd accusations against Telkin. Despite Vasily Vasilyevich being highly respected by everyone, his colleagues took this "signal" too seriously and, in doing so, caused an undeserved insult to their friend.

Konstantin Ivanovich Ermolayev, who had been driving locomotives for many years, was offered a dispatcher job due to his approaching retirement age. He refuses to accept this and goes to his wartime friend Pankratov for advice.

The heroes of the play are the father and son, the Raskatovs, whose lives are marked by the echoes of the past war: the father, a prominent military leader, dies from wounds sustained during the war; the son perishes while disarming a Nazi chemical weapons depot.
