The sad uniqueness of Ukraine is that it has witnesses of two generations who survived the experience of war in childhood.

Many years later, a man recalls his youth—and looks back on an unforgettable first love cut short by the outbreak of the Second World War.

The plot is devoted to the historical buildings of Kyiv that were destroyed during the Soviet period. The central part of the story is devoted to the destruction of an outstanding historical monument of the Kyivan Rus period—St. Michael's Cathedral.

First ladies come and go, but the last ladies continue to bear the cross of their homeland. Those who endure great trials cannot be called "little people."
