The plot is devoted to the historical buildings of Kyiv that were destroyed during the Soviet period. The central part of the story is devoted to the destruction of an outstanding historical monument of the Kyivan Rus period—St. Michael's Cathedral.

First ladies come and go, but the last ladies continue to bear the cross of their homeland. Those who endure great trials cannot be called "little people."
