Alejo, an archaeologist from Lima, Peru, travels to Newmarket, Canada, where his Peruvian family migrated years ago. It is his first time back in two decades and since the death of his mother.

The film tells the story of a Miraflorian family composed of Claudia, Daniel's wife and mother of Elías and Sofi. Their lives develop very normally until they are surprised with the terrorist attack on Tarata Street, with which Claudia suffers a very large loss that will make her react to events that happened in front of her for a long time.

President Fujimori's government is on its way out, and the citizens of Peru are struggling to get by, often engaging in unscrupulous means to get ahead--or just to make a buck. Rafo is a struggling filmmaker who supports his girlfriend Laura. He encounters a Spanish con artist posing as an executive for a major phone company, the Spaniard draws Rafo into an elaborate scam.

Surrounded by social and political chaos in Lima during the summer of 1992, Lucia, Aurora, and their mother, Elena, plan to leave and seek opportunities in the United States. Their farewell involves reconnecting with their estranged father, Carlos, adding turbulence to the regrets, hopes, and fears of their emotional departure.

When Juan discovers Fermin's secret, Juan is spirited away to the guerrillas to learn Marxist slogans and how to fight. When the band decides to attack the town to avenge the death of a comrade, Juan must choose.

A compelling and skillful telling of a necessary story, BOTH is based on the experiences of the filmmaker as well as those of many other intersex adults.
