Madrid, Spain, 1936. The young Miguel Gila lives happily with his grandparents in a humble attic; but the outbreak of the Civil War forces him to go to fight.

It is the last night that Haizea and Mikel spend together. As a gymnast, she has given him a scholarship to train in Poland. After making love, she asks about the future of their relationship.

Esti returns to Oiartzun after six years living in Sweden. Although she had promised herself not to return, economic instability and job insecurity force her to return. She realises that the town remains unchanged, and Esti is not willing to adapt to it.
