Guo Ran

The story follows twelve-year-old Xiaoxian's memories of her family and her village. During seven days, the girl witnesses three deaths and two births, including the death of her own mother, who dies giving birth to her fourth sister.

Tianzhen, a middle-aged housewife, lives in a mountain village in southern China. Tianzhen wishes to leave her hometown and explore the outside world, but her plans to depart have yet to materialize. The return of her son Guang from Shanghai begins to transform Tianzhen's hesitant reality into something magical, as reality, imagination, and dreams intertwine...

Set in remote China, 'The Corn is Flowering' is a meditative story about how a family deals with a dying grandfather, as seen through the eyes of the six year old granddaughter.
