Trees Painted in Tar

In the bleak winter landscape of Denmark, two social workers find a young woman, alone in the woods. But there is something troubling about her; she doesn't speak and her eyes fill everyone around her with angst. As her presence start to creep into everyone around her, they start to second guess, whether taking her away from the woods, was a good idea.

Simon moves from Copenhagen to Vesterby, where he meets Bjarke - the city's alpha male and heir to the local speaker empire. The two outsiders begin to challenge each other in cross-border actions, and the friendship grows. But when fraud forces the loudspeaker factory to go bankrupt, the city disintegrates, and Bjarke's family is blamed. Anger arouses the beast in Bjarke, and Simon must now choose whether to try to save his friend or withdraw from the course that Bjarke has set - towards his and Vesterby's downfall.

Karoline’s life is turned upside down when her father, Kjeld, manically starts digging a pit in their backyard. The following days turn into a living nightmare as the pit becomes a grave and the land, which has been in the family for generations, pulls Kjeld further and further down into the deep.
