For Love

Deu Pra Ti Anos 70 is a Brazilian film, shot in super-8 in 1981 in the city of Porto Alegre. It tells the story of the meetings and disagreements between Marcelo and Ceres through the 1970s, in bars, dance meetings and camps. It has the special participation of artists who would become important in the gaúcho music scene, such as Nei Lisboa, Júlio Reny, Augusto Licks, Wander Wildner and Carlos Gerbase. It was the first film by actor Werner Schünemann.

The search for a successor provokes the beginning of a clash between two young and talented executives of his group: Daniel Bastos, a lad of simple origins and excellent character, who is not only handsome and charming, but also intelligent and skilled, and Olavo Novaes, an ambitious and unscrupulous man who is ready to fight for the position, at any cost. Set in the 1960s, the story has as protagonist Delfino, a Catholic sculptor from Congonhas do Campo. Raised by his aunt Efigênia, he lives from selling his works.

She sees in Antônio a chance to fulfill her desire and, even knowing about the romance between the young man and her sister, she orchestrates a situation to seduce him and manages to get pregnant by him. The two are then forced to marry and move to the capital.

Afraid that her parents’ reunion might spoil her plans, Jô starts an alliance with the charming Régis to convince Maria to marry him and, together, they plan to steal all of Maria’s fortune. In this exciting telenovela written by Emmy Awards winner Walcyr Carrasco, Maria’s optimism must be stronger than Jô’s ambition when the baker finds out about the betrayal and her own daughter’s dangerous secrets.

The story of one of Brazilian cinema's pioneers, Eduardo Abelim, from the start of his career, in Rio de Janeiro, until his filming of the 1930 Revolution. To promote his films, Abelim would even perform car stunts, give classes on the occult and offer guidance on mystical matters.

Quilombo dos Palmares was a real-life democratic society, created in Brazil in the 17th century. This incredibly elaborate (and surprisingly little-known) film traces the origins of Quilombo, which began as a community of freed slaves. The colony becomes a safe harbor for other outcasts of the world, including Indians and Jews. Ganga Zumba (Toni Tornado) becomes president of Quilombo, the first freely elected leader in the Western Hemisphere. Naturally, the ruling Portuguese want to subjugate Zumba and his followers, but the Quilombians are ready for their would-be oppressors. The end of this Brave New World is not pleasant, but the followers of Zumba and his ideals take to the hills, where they honor his memory to this day. Writer/director Carlos Diegues takes every available opportunity to compare the rise and fall of Quilombo with the state of affairs in modern-day Brazil.
