A Postcard from Rome

A coming of age story about a group of millennials who start to face their self-destructive tendencies as they each head straight into their crisis of thirtysomethings.

Three sisters, dead broke and disconnected from each other, travel around Europe with their mother’s corpse on top of their van, trying to minimize transportation costs. The trio has to talk, reminisce and maybe even admit that underneath their fantasies of perfection — these are women in a desperate search for freedom.

Marta is ready to do anything to seduce her mysterious drumming teacher Ivars. However, Marta’s provocations don’t seem to work on him. After many misunderstandings an unexpected friendship is born.

A colorful and slightly comical portrait of a group of people and a snapshot of an era, telling the story of Lucavsala, a green oasis in the center of Riga. Unique in Europe, this allotment garden colony, located almost in the city center, brings together a wide variety of social groups: modern flower children, city dwellers caught up in their daily routines, organizers of spiritual festivals, homeless people, and pyromaniacs, whom the director contrasts with urban planners working in air-conditioned offices. Each of them strives to realize their dreams on the island, which are as contrasting as the characters in the film themselves.

The abandoned town of Irbene is left with only a radio telescope and its last two inhabitants - astronomy professor Juris and metal recycler Gena. Despite their striking differences, the two wonder about each other, about aliens, war and the stars.

Estere spends her days by the sea selling ice cream. Trying to find peace, she listens to meditation podcasts and self-help books. Meanwhile, strangers caressed by the summer sun look for the same in tarot cards, alcohol and the Bible. Estere starts to imitate overheard conversations: stuck in positive self-verbalization, she repeats it until she believes it.
