6-grader Kolya Gerasimov discovers a time machine in a basement of an old house in Moscow and gets transferred into the 21st century. There he is allowed to look around. Accidentally, Kolya witnesses two space pirates who arrive from Saturn and later try to steal a device called a "Mielophone" (which can read thoughts) from Alisa Seleznyova - a girl that performs experiments with this device and animals. Kolya manages to save the device from the pirates and brings it back to the 20th century. But both pirates and Alisa get there too. Also because of that, the boy's mother is very jealous and tries to separate them. The only person that tries to help them is their teacher who has relationship problems of her own.

In the distant city of Blagoveshchensk, a father and his two sons, Rodka and Kostya, live together. After graduating from college, Kostya works as a surgeon and suffocates from the "greyness" of others, and 15-year-old Rodka suffers from the inability to help people. The fifth film in a Mosfilm "youth" anthology series comprising three short stories. The first story, 'Vizit' (The Visit), directed by filmmaker turned politician Yevgeni Gerasimov, tells the story of a rural boy visiting his former village girlfriend, now living in Moscow. Next comes a short film by Aleksandr Majorov called 'Zolotye rybki' (Goldfishes), which is based on a story of a magical goldfish brought from a provincial pet store by the late Russian historian and science-fiction and fantasy writer Kir Bulychyov. The final segment and the title of the film, 'Polosa vezeniya' (Streak of Luck), tells the story of a member of staff at a research institute who is offered the job of department head but has second thoughts when he discovers the previous boss was unfairly dismissed.

Commissar Ignat Bodiagin is charged with requisitioning grain for the Red Army, only to find his own father condemned for hoarding; he must preside over his execution and soon dies himself leading the resisting Cossacks away from the grain convoy.

But adolescents cannot stand any morality from the lesson the man taught them and decide to teach him a lesson.
